Photo captures lightning striking NYC’s two tallest buildings

This spectacular picture shows two bolts of lighting simultaneously striking the two tallest buildings in the city.

The once-in-a-lifetime shot was taken by Jon Rubino, a weather and photography buff, from his 15th-floor Long Island City apartment overlooking the East River during the violent rain and thunderstorm Friday night.

He said he was watching “Breaking Bad’ reruns on TV while his camera, pointed out the window, was automatically taking pictures about every 30 seconds.

“I’ve been living here for four years,’’ he said. “I’ve attempted to capture lightning striking the Empire State Building a number of times.’’

When he checked his computer he was startled to see he’d captured lighting striking both the Empire State Building and the new Freedom Tower.

As far as he knows, it’s the only legitimate non-photoshopped picture of a twin hit on both buildings.
