Dolphins’ offensive line coach took part in abuse: report

Revealed in the explosive Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin investigation by attorney Ted Wells was that Dolphins offensive line coach Jim Turner not only knew about the harassment heaped on Martin, but actually took part in the abuse.

Turner figures to have a hard time retaining his job if these allegations prove to be true.

Repeatedly in the report released Friday morning, Turner maintains he did not see or hear vulgar or offensive comments made by Dolphins players toward Martin. Wells, though, doesn’t buy the contention Turner or assistant offensive line coach Chris Mosley did not know how badly Martin was treated. The report states Turner and Mosley, who left the team in October, were “certainly aware of some of the insulting comments directed to Martin by Incognito’’ and “it is undisputed these coaches never sought to stop the behavior.”

Wells’ investigation uncovered an alleged incident involving Turner and a player identified as “Player A.’’

According to the report, Turner, during the 2012 season, gave his offensive linemen Christmas gift bags and included in all the bags except for “Player A’s” was a female blow-up doll. “Player A’’ received a male blow-up doll, which the report concluded was a case of homophobic taunting.

When interviewed, Turner said he did not remember the incident, but the report states: “We do not believe that Turner forgot this incident, which many others recalled.’’

The report stated that “Player A’’ was repeatedly the object of homophobic verbal abuse. The report also identified text messages from Tucker urging Martin to go public and defend Incognito.

“You could put an end to all the rumors with a simple statement,’’ Turner wrote. “DO THE RIGHT THING. NOW.’’
