Clutch Call
Bottega Veneta may be known for its luxe leather handbags, but this fall it slipped into a new skin: snake. This sleek metallic snakeskin clutch in neutral-of-the-season gold slinks toward It-bag status with woven details and engraved metal trim. Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean you can’t shine through the night.
Sequin Scene
Barbara Bui added glitzy color and luxe texture to her mostly black fall 2013 collection, covering a few key items in gold sequins. This long-sleeve top was one of the stand-out gilded pieces, cut in masculine silhouettes to create an androgynous look with a nod toward ’70s glam. Perfect timing for all those shimmering holiday parties.
Gilt Lilt
As soon as these shiny, strappy numbers stepped down the Prada runway in February, fashionistas tripped over themselves to score a pair for their own treasure chests. The glimmering kicks sauntered through fashion weeks across the globe, giving the Midas touch to fabulous footsies near and far.
Ring of Fire
In an eruption of glamour, Chloé set off masculine clothing and English flair with sleek and shiny rings for fall. This finger bauble melds volcanic stone with a molteny metallic band for a look the style set is lava-ing. In the case of gold versus the volcano, we’d sacrifice anything to the style gods.
Golden Cinch
It’s time to get sashy. Bold belts are the ideal accessory for an ultra-feminine silhouette, and the house of Vionnet embraced them to golden effect this fall. Paired with perfectly draped silk signature dresses or more tailored high-waist pants from the collection, this oversized cinch is sure to make for a shining, slimming holiday season.
Crown Jewels
Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown — unless it’s anointed by Dolce & Gabbana. The opulent genius of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana topped off this season with a collection referencing the Roman Catholic Church. Themes of devotion and excess played out in everything from mosaic to filigree details, like this embellished crown that’s fit for fashion royalty.
Neck Excess
Roberto Cavalli doesn’t want anyone blending into the background while wearing his namesake line. Not a problem with the elaborate prints and eye-catching textures from his fall 2013 runway. More is more this season, and loading on a festooned necklace completes the excessive-compulsive look.
Totally Buggin’
Lanvin’s oversized “word” necklaces were, without a doubt, fall’s greatest hits. But beyond the cheeky chokers were exceptional clothing pieces with outlandish details that wow on their own. Case in point, this silk top loaded with Swarovski crystal insect appliqués — all the buzz this season.
Shadylady
Art Nouveau influences whirled through this fall’s Tory Burch show. Inspired by Gustav Klimt’s paintings, the collection dazzled with glints of gold, flocked velvet and grids of sequins adorning everything from sweaters to these captivating cat-eye sunnies.
Time to Shine
You know embellishments are in vogue when even your watch is decked out in sparkles. Chanel doesn’t miss a minute with its luxe diamond and pink sapphire watch on a black alligator strap, featuring self-winding mechanical movement and a 42-hour power reserve. It’s even water resistant, for those plush deep-sea plunges.
