Dolphins coach vows to fix his locker room

INDIANAPOLIS – Dolphins coach Joe Philbin guaranteed changes in the organization after the revelations in the Ted Wells report last week.

Philbin made his first comments Thursday since the report detailing bullying inside the Dolphins was released.

“Some of the facts, the behavior, the language that was outlined in the report was inappropriate and unacceptable,” Philbin said at the NFL Scouting Combine. “I’m the one who is in charge of the work place. I can tell you, I can tell our fans, I can tell you sitting here, I can tell our players: We’re going to do things about it. We’re going to make it better. We’re going to look at every avenue. We’re going to uncover every stone and we’re going to have a better workplace. I promise you that. I’m going to make sure that happens.”

Philbin said he was unaware of many of the details that Wells uncovered. The team has fired offensive line coach Jim Turner and head trainer Kevin O’Neill as a result of the report. Philbin would not comment on the futures of offensive linemen Richie Incognito, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey. Incognito is a pending free agent.

He said Jonathan Martin, the main target of the bullying, will meet with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross shortly.

Philbin said he will work to improve the environment around the Dolphins to ensure this never happens again.

“I want everybody to know I am the one who is responsible for the workplace environment at the Miami Dolphins facility,” Philbin said. “I’m the one that sets the schedule. I decide when the practices are. I decide what time players eat, how they meet, when they life, everything they do at the facility.”
