Suspicious Manziel photo isn’t Browns’ biggest problem

What would a Monday be without some Johnny Manziel drama?

The Browns’ rookie quarterback, who seemingly hasn’t missed a party since Cleveland took him in the first round of May’s NFL draft, is again in the cross hairs with a suggestive photo making the rounds.

Before Manziel spent the July 4 weekend in Las Vegas, he reportedly was enjoying time in Austin, Texas. That appears to be the site of a photo first published by Busted Coverage, then circulated on Twitter, allegedly showing Manziel in a bathroom rolling up some paper currency.

The Browns, who recently reached the point of asking Manziel to “tone down” his extracurriculars, declined a request for comment on the photo from Pro Football Talk.

Some are fed up with the tracking and parsing of Manziel’s every move. Teammate Donte Whitner tweeted:

But Manziel’s supposed mirror-view money-handling is far from the most serious issue to beset the Browns this weekend. Star wide receiver Josh Gordon was arrested Saturday morning in Raleigh, North Carolina, for driving while impaired. In addition to the DWI charge, Gordon was issued a speeding citation for going 50 mph in a 35-mph area. According to CBS Sports, Gordon was driving a vehicle registered to NBA rookie P.J. Hairston, who has had car trouble before — and has ties to the sketchy character “Fats” Thomas, who was riding with Gordon.

The arrest is the latest in a series of off-the-field problems for Gordon. He missed two games last year while serving a drug-related suspension and is currently facing another ban under the NFL’s drug policy for up to a year, pending an appeal.

Former Browns captain D’Qwell Jackson, now with the Colts, spoke for many in the NFL community when he expressed concern for the 23-year-old Gordon’s well-being.

“He needs help, he really does,” Jackson told ESPN. “He needs people to extend themselves and probably have to do more than they wanted to do. But if [the Browns] care anything about the kid, they have to do it.”
