Twitter chief wants every person ‘on the planet’ to tweet

Twitter’s new anthem should be “Satisfaction,” by the Rolling Stones.

Dick Costolo, CEO of the microblogging site, on Thursday vowed to be like Stones frontman Mick Jagger and remain insatiable until every person “on the planet” has a Twitter account.

“We as a company aren’t going to be satisfied — I am not going to be satisfied — until we reach every connected user on the planet, period,” Costolo told the crowd at a Goldman Sachs technology conference.

Twitter’s shares plummeted last week after it reported, in its first quarterly results as a public company, that revenue beat expectations but growth slowed more than expected.

Costolo vowed at the conference to grow Twitter’s user base this year via changes to the service that will make it easier to use.

The CEO declined, however, to say whether those changes, some of which have been rolled out already, are resulting in greater user growth this quarter.

Twitter shares closed down 0.7 percent on Thursday, to $56.47.
