Signed Jason Collins jerseys up for special auction

Three signed Jason Collins Brooklyn Nets jerseys – including two game-worn jerseys – will be available on auctions.nba.com through April 22, the NBA announced Friday.

All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Matthew Shepard Foundation and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, the same two foundations that have received all proceeds from the sale of his No. 98 jersey since he signed with the Nets.

Collins became the first openly gay player in any of the four major American professional sports when he signed with the Nets on Feb. 23, later signing a second 10-day contract and then being signed through the remainder of the season.

The 13-year veteran has scored a total of nine points and grabbed nine rebounds in 17 games.
