UK police launch manhunt for armed Elvis impersonator

A UK village was all shook up on Friday as police launched a manhunt for an Elvis impersonator believed to be armed and dangerous.

Officers are searching for Derrel Weaver, 60, who is wanted in connection with a domestic incident at a farm on Thursday, the Daily Mail reports.

Images have been released of Weaver with sunglasses, slick black hair and long sideburns reminiscent of the King. Authorities say it is unclear whether he is armed, but added that it was a possibility.

Authorities are hoping he will soon be singing “Jailhouse Rock” as a heavily armed police presence remains in the village and surrounding areas.

Officers warned locals not to approach Weaver and to instead let police take care of business. A nearby school was also closed as a precaution.

“Police are not able to share much detail at this time but can say that this is a domestic situation and it is understood one of the occupants has access to firearms,” a police spokesman said.

A neighbor told the Daily Mail that Weaver lives with his partner, Karen Pengelly, and her children. Police say the children are safe.

Hours before the search began, Louisa Roe, 30, said the Elvis look-alike seemed fine, greeting her with a smile and friendly wave.

“I saw him in his truck at about 5:45 p.m.,” she said. “He waved and seemed absolutely fine.”

The fugitive describes himself on social media as a rock ’n’ roll singer and professional tree surgeon who trained with the National Trust.

“He’s known as Elvis — everyone calls him that,” said neighbor Ann Chudleigh. “I’ve seen him dressed up. He looks brilliant.”

A flier used to promote his music reads: “In a just world Derrel would have been recognized long ago and the world of music would have been a lot richer for it.”

“He does tape recordings of himself,” Chudleigh said. “When you listen to them, you wouldn’t know the difference.”
