Santonio: My Super Steelers catch better than Tyree’s for Giants

CORTLAND – David Tyree’s “Catch-42” will go down as one of the most iconic plays in Super Bowl history.

But Santonio Holmes thinks his game-winning catch for the Steelers against the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII was better.

“Hands down, Number 10,” Holmes said in an interview with ESPN 98.7 FM following Monday’s practice. “Ten toes in the end zone.

“He made a play that happened to be the play he was supposed to make but it did not win that game for them.”

Holmes’ catch with 35 seconds left handed the Steelers at 27-23 victory over the Cardinals, and earned Holmes MVP honors.

Tyree’s miraculous catch late in Super Bowl XLII set up Eli Manning’s game winning touchdown pass to Plaxico Burres – ironically also with 35 seconds left – which gave the Giants a 17-14 victory over the Patriots, ending New England’s dreams of the first perfect season since the 1972 Dolphins.
