LI man accused of breaking into house, beating resident with wooden table leg

BETHPAGE — A Long Island man is accused of breaking into a home and attacking the resident with a wooden table leg.

Nassau County police say Albert Garfield crashed through the fence in the driveway of the victim’s Bethpage house around 8 a.m. Thursday. He then allegedly kicked in the door of the house and started beating the 50-year-old victim.

The victim was treated at a hospital for multiple contusions and abrasions to his head.

About two hours later, police say Garfield stole a car from a woman waiting to have it serviced at a Kia dealership.

Garfield was charged with assault, grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

The motive for the crimes and whether Garfield had a lawyer were not immediately known.
