Pitino will fulfill promise to Louisville players — getting a tattoo

Rick Pitino is making good on the promise he made his players in the middle of the season. He’s getting a tattoo.

The Louisville men’s basketball coach told his kids that if the team won the national championship, he would get inked in honor of them. Well, Pitino guided his Cardinals to the title Monday night with a win over Michigan.

“I said it … not believing this was going to be a reality, but I am going to get it,” Pitino said on “CBS This Morning.” “It will be a cardinal and it will say 2013 champions.”

Pitino, 60, is the only coach to win a national championship at two different schools, doing it at Louisville and Kentucky. The New York native and former Knicks coach is also the only coach to bring three teams to the Final Four, Providence being the third.

Not that history mattered so much to his players. They were just excited to see him get tatted.

“I think that was our biggest motivation, was to get Coach P a tattoo,” Louisville point guard Peyton Siva told reporters after the championship game.
