‘It’s A Disaster’ review

Turns out the Mayans were wrong about predicting Armageddon in 2012, but that hasn’t deterred filmmakers one whit.

Those who can’t wait for the all-star “This Is the End’’ in two months are welcome to this practically laugh-free vanity comedy with C-listers (hello, America Ferrera!) facing the apocalypse in the form of a nerve-gas attack on Los Angeles.

As far as I’m concerned, death couldn’t arrive quickly enough for these eight stereotypically self-absorbed Los Angelenos gathered for Sunday brunch at which the hosts (Blaise Miller, Erinn Hayes) plan to announce the demise of their marriage.

Another couple show up late and are left to succumb outside the duct-taped doors — luckily missing confessions about infidelity and opportunistic hookups that brought back unwelcome memories of last year’s “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.’’

Todd Berger’s “It’s a Disaster’’ doesn’t fully live up to its unfortunate title only because of the sheer professionalism of the underutilized (as usual) Julia Stiles as a neurotic doctor, and David Cross as her seemingly sane date who turns out to be far crazier than any of his new acquaintances. Not an easy feat under the circumstances.
