Ike Davis is back to the home he doesn’t remember.
The Mets first baseman arrived in Minnesota yesterday hoping for a sight-seeing tour on the team’s day off to perhaps catch glimpses of his past.
Davis was born in suburban Minneapolis, living there until he was 2 years old.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the place I was born, maybe seeing the house I lived in and the area I grew up in, which I don’t remember,” Davis said before the Mets departed Philadelphia on Wednesday. “I’ve always wanted to go back and check it out.”
Davis’ father, Ron, was a reliever with the Twins from 1982-86 after beginning his career with the Yankees. The family moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., after departing Minnesota.
“I was lucky,” Davis said. “I probably wouldn’t be a baseball player if I grew up [in Minnesota].”
As for the possibility of playing this weekend series in arctic conditions, Davis said he is ready.
“It’s going to be cold,” Davis said. “But everybody is going to be playing in it, so what are you going to do?”
* David Wright said he is looking forward to playing his first game at Target Field, which opened three years ago.
Target Field, U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago and Rangers Ballpark in Texas are the only current ballparks in which Wright hasn’t played.
The Mets have two games scheduled against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field in June.
