$6.4 million to man wrongly imprisoned for 23 years

A man who served nearly 23 years in prison after a cop allegedly framed him for killing a Brooklyn rabbi will get $6.4 million in a settlement from the city — without even going to court.

David Ranta’s lawyer, Pierre Sussman, said his out-of- court deal with the office of controller Scott Stringer is “in the best interest of my client and the best interest of the city of New York.’’

The 58-year-old Ranta had suffered a heart attack last March, a day after he was finally sprung from jail as the result of an investigation by the Brooklyn DA’s office.

“My client needs to take care of his health and his family and he’s in a position now where he’ll be made financially stable,’’ Sussman said.

“He won’t have to worry about how he’s going to support himself for the rest of his life and pay for his medical bills.”

The rabbi, Chaskel Werzberger, of Williamsburg, was shot in the head in 1990 by a thug who pulled off a jewelry heist across the street and stole his car to use for their getaway.

The detective on the case, Louis Scarcella, is being probed for allegations including fabricating confessions and coercing witnesses in a series of cases.

Sussman said he’s still planning to sue the state.
