Name of Knicks’ new D-League team lacks creativity

It’s so silly you would think the Knicks thought of it themselves, but this one’s on the fans.

The Knicks revealed the name of their new D-League team on Wednesday – decided by a fan vote – and it is … the Knicks. Yes, that’s the best they could come up with.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the team had filed for five trademarks (The New York 914s, The New York ‘Bockers, The New York Plainsmen, The New York Empire and The New York Hutch) in March before fans started submitting suggestions. Apparently, consistency won over creativity.

Somewhere, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (defending D-League champs) and the Maine Red Claws are laughing.
