New law slams brakes on reckless cabbies

The city will have an easier time yanking the licenses of cabbies who critically injure people through reckless driving, under a new bill signed into law Monday by Mayor de Blasio.

The bill was sparked by the death of 9-year-old Cooper Stock on the Upper West Side in January, after he was struck by a cab whose driver who failed to yield while turning into a crosswalk.

The measure was among 11 bills the mayor signed at a ceremony at a Queens school playground as part of his Vision Zero initiative to eliminate all traffic fatalities.

Other measures include creating neighborhood slow zones, prohibiting stunt tricks on motorcycles and lowering speed limits near dozens of schools each year.

Preliminary figures show 111 traffic-related deaths so far in 2014, roughly on par with last year’s figures.
