Behind the curtain

Mr. Pfister (Jim Piddock) discovers an unforeseen aspect of Tom’s great-grandfather Harry’s life and Tom (Chris O’Dowd) and Pete (Tom Bennett) venture to the south coast of England, where Harry died many years before. They meet Sybil (Freda Barratt), an impossibly old woman who still lives next door to the house Harry lived in; even though she’s ancient, she can still remember him from her childhood. Their investigation takes them to a regional theatre, where Tom and Pete learn more than they ever wanted to know about Harry’s life and loves from Rex (Hugh Sachs) and Mitch (Guy Siner), the two gentlemen who run the theatre. It also inspires Tom and Pete to engage in a unique competition, but not before Pete has set Tom up on another extraordinary date.

FAMILY TREE

Tonight, 10:30 p.m., HBO

Old faithful

After making a routine arrest of a man exposing himself in Central Park, Detective Rollins (Kelli Giddish) has a bad feeling about the suspect and calls upon the entire SVU squad and ADA Barba (Raul Esparza) to help. With no way to discover his true identity, the suspect masterfully outplays the cops at every turn. A shocking theory comes to light, and as Barba’s trial comes to a close, the situation rapidly escalates and Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay, above right) is put into mortal danger. Again.

Rookies in trouble

On the fourth season premiere of “Rookie Blue,” Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym, above left) and Nick (Peter Collins) continue to work undercover infiltrating a meth pipeline. However their covert mission goes sideways when Nick and then Andy go missing. Meanwhile, a random arrest at 15 Division puts Sam Swarek (Ben Bass), who’s now a detective, and the other officers in the middle of the drug investigation-turned-rescue operation.

ROOKIE BLUE

Thursday, 10 p.m., ABC

Left for dead

Nora (Daniella Alonso, right) is tortured and left for dead. Monroe (David Lyons) learns of Rachel’s (Elizabeth Mitchell) attempt to reach the Tower but is unaware of her deadly plan for him. Meanwhile, Miles (Billy Burke) is determined to find out how so many of his close associates are being brutally murdered. Later, Miles, Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos), Neville (Giancarlo Esposito), Jason, (JD Pardo) Hudson (Malik Yoba) and Sanborn (Leland Orser) struggle to make it out of the Plains Nation to join Rachel and save her from certain death.

REVOLUTION

Monday, 10 p.m., NBC

Hey, Mr. Producer

He’s a real nut. Melvin Brooks, Brooklyn boy who did good, gets his the “American Masters’ treatment this week. But unlike some of this show’s recent choices, he deserves it. His career spans 60 years, from the live TV series, “Your Show of Shows,” with Sid Caesar, to the hysterically rude movie satires and the monster Broadway hit musical of his movie, “The Producers.” If you were a performer willing to go for broke, he would go there with you and the result was side-splitting. Think of Madeline Kahn or Cloris Leachman as Frau Blucher in “Young Frankenstein.” Or Dom DeLuise at the end of “Blazing Saddles.” ‘Mel Brooks: Makes a Noise” trots out the usual suspects (Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick) who pay homage to Brooks’ comic genius, but one of them, Carl Reiner, has known him the longest. So he might be worth listening to.

MEL BROOKS: MAKE A NOISE

Monday, 9 p.m., PBS

Under arrest

Everyone flies down to Florida to be with Phil (Ty Burrell) after his mom’s passing. Claire (Julie Bowen) helps Phil with Gracie’s last wish for Frank (Fred Willard), and the kids reflect on the gifts grandma left for them. Gloria (Sofia Vergara) has to deal with an outstanding arrest warrant in Florida, Cam (Eric Stonestreet) finds himself fitting right into an elderly women’s group at Frank’s retirement community, and Jay (Ed O’Neill) runs into a pivotal person from his past.
