Pol accidentally featured a sex offender in endorsement ad

Not all endorsements are equal.

A primary candidate in the race for Connecticut governor filmed himself getting the wholehearted support of a constituent who turns out to be a convicted sex offender, according to a published report.

The campaign of Republican Tom Foley posted three videos of him interviewing people in New Haven — apparently without vetting all the interviewees.

The CTPost reported on its blog that one man featured in the clips — 54-year-old Jerry Buchanan — spent three months in prison after pleading guilty to three separate charges of sexual assault.

The campaign of Foley’s primary opponent, eight-term state Sen. John McKinney, declined comment.

But it’s actually current Connecticut governor Dan Malloy, a Democrat, who bears the brunt of Buchanan’s complaints.

“All our businesses are leaving. Governor Malloy is taxing businesses,” Buchanan tells Foley during the interview. “How are you going to attract people to come to Connecticut if you’re taxing businesses?”

Foley’s campaign didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
