Jets coordinator investigated for slapping a woman

Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman was flagged for roughing after making a pass.

The coach allegedly slapped a woman at a New Jersey restaurant Wednesday evening, according to a police report filed by 28-year-old Jessie Steinberg with the Morristown Police Department.

Thurman, 58, was at Pazzo Pazzo, a regular hangout for the former NFL defensive back, when he allegedly manhandled Steinberg at the outdoor bar.

Steinberg told police, who said Friday no charges will be filed and the investigation is closed, that Thurman was “hitting on her and offering drinks,” which she turned down because she is in a relationship. After getting denied, Steinberg claims Thurman “showed an aggressive demeanor.”

A few minutes later, Steinberg said Thurman raised his hand at her.

“You just hit me,” Steinberg recalled to the police.

In photos obtained by TMZ, the woman is seen giving Thurman the bird seconds before he allegedly goes to hit her.

“Steinberg felt that she was slapped because Thurman was not getting what he wanted from her,” the report said.

But Michael Thorne, general manager of Pazzo Pazzo, denied the incident unfolded the way Steinberg said in her report.

“It’s not an incident,” Thorne said.

When pressed further, he replied: “No comment.”

The Jets also declined to give any details about the incident, saying in a statement: “We take these matters seriously. There have been no charges filed, and we will continue to monitor the situation.”

Though Steinberg said she was unharmed by the incident, she filed the report because she was concerned Thurman would strike again.
