How Mallory Edens ended up at NBA lottery and an Internet star

Tuesday morning, Mallory Edens was a high school senior with a few hundred Twitter followers. She woke up Wednesday with more than 25,000 and counting.

Edens is the 18-year-old daughter of new Bucks co-owner and New York hedge fund billionaire Wesley Edens. She appeared on stage at Tuesday night’s NBA draft lottery in Manhattan, where Milwaukee landed the No. 2 pick.

“He sort of brought it up in passing one time and I though he was joking and then here I am, so I suppose it wasn’t a joke,” Mallory told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Edens’ Internet fame skyrocketed after she was introduced and most made sure she was old enough to ogle.

Mallory is one of Edens’ three children, but her older sister Madison was happy to cede the stage.

“She’s definitely the more photogenic one, so I was happy to give it to her,” Madison said. “I could not be up there. She was amazing. … What a great way to start.”

Wesley Edens and fellow New York financial heavyweight Marc Lasry purchased the Bucks for $550 million in April, and Tuesday was an important date in franchise history. The Bucks were a league-worst 15-67 and had a 25 percent chance to land the No. 1 pick, but were beaten out by the Cavaliers.

“I was really nervous, but really happy to get the second pick,” said Mallory, who was sitting next to 76ers great Julius Erving. “I was extremely nervous but it was really fun.”
