Upper East Side woman plunges to her death

A woman plunged to her death Sunday from a luxurious Upper East Side condo tower in an apparent suicide, authorities and witnesses said.

The unidentified woman apparently used some sort of object, possibly a chair, to smash a window on the 29th floor of the Yorkville Towers on Third Avenue near 92nd Street at around 12:15 p.m. before taking the fatal leap, cops and bystanders said.

“I heard someone scream, ‘Oh, no!’ very loudly,” said resident Jeff Kegler, 67, a retired computer programmer who lives on the ninth floor. “I heard glass break at the same time.”

The woman’s body fell to a third-floor landing. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“These are double-pane windows,” said another bystander, referring to the thick panes of glass broken by the victim. “It takes a lot of effort to do that.”
