‘Dude, you’re halfway’: The hitting streak you should pay attention to

Time to tune in.

Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 28 games with a single in the third inning of Thursday night’s 5-0 loss to the Texas Rangers.

That broke the team record he matched Wednesday night, and is halfway to Joe DiMaggio’s major league record of 56 set in 1941.

“My cousin was like, ‘Dude, you’re halfway!’ I’m like, halfway?,” Arenado said. “I feel like this has been forever. This is unbelievable.”

Arenado’s hitting streak is one game longer than teammate Michael Cuddyer’s 27-gamer last season. Arenado’s streak began April 9, a week before his 23rd birthday. He is batting .360 (40-for-11) with 11 doubles, four homers and 20 RBIs over that span, and the Rockies are 18-10 during the run.

“I was really more worried about winning,” Arenado said. “Me having the mindset about me trying to help my team out and doing my job, I think that’s what made me get it.”
