Blanchett dedicates BAFTA award to Hoffman

Cate Blanchett gave a heartfelt tribute to her friend and fellow actor Philip Seymour Hoffman during her acceptance speech for a BAFTA award in London Sunday night.

Blanchett won the best-actress prize for her turn as a socialite in the Woody Allen movie “Blue Jasmine” at the British Academy of Film and television Arts Awards.

The actress called the late Hoffman “a monumental presence who is now sadly an absence.”

“Phil, buddy, this is for you, you bastard,” Blanchett said. “I hope you’re proud.”

Hoffman was found dead of an apparent heroin overdose in his West Village apartment on Feb. 2.

Blanchett was seen at the apartment of the “Capote” actor’s estranged girlfriend and their children almost daily after Hoffman’s death.

Other big winners at the BAFTA awards included “Gravity” and “12 Years a Slave.”
