Police funeral for brave NJ boy

A brave 10-year-old New Jersey boy — who became a community inspiration during his heart-wrenching battle with cancer — was honored with a full police funeral Tuesday.

Michael Feeney, of Ridgewood, planned to run in the Hawes Elementary School student election and was scheduled to light the village’s Christmas tree this week — before he died on Friday.

At the funeral, 80 officers flanked the entrance to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood as bagpipers played.

“Michael was a great kid,” said his dad, Jack Feeney. “He loved school. He loved all of his friends. Most of all, he liked to make people laugh.”

Feeney — the youngest to ever be named an honorary police chief by the Ridgewood Police Department — battled the rare Ewing’s sarcoma for four years.

The department may name a future junior police academy after him, according to reports.
