EVAN GOES ‘LONG’ IN RAYS’ BLOWOUT WIN

The Red Sox are having trouble getting Evan Longoria out with runners on base. At least they have some company.

Longoria homered and drove in five runs to raise his major league-leading total to 44 RBIs, leading the Rays to a 14-5 win over the Red Sox yesterday in Boston.

Angels 1, Royals 0

In Anaheim, Joe Saunders threw his first career shutout and Los Angeles handed Zack Greinke his first loss in the Angels’ 1-0 victory Saturday night.

Greinke (6-1) allowed one run in eight innings.

Saunders (5-1) earned his second career complete game, giving up five hits.

Blue Jays 6, Athletics 4

In Oakland, Brian Tallet yielded two hits over seven strong innings, Lyle Overbay homered and the Blue Jays avoided their first three-game skid of the season with a victory over the Athletics.

White Sox 3, Rangers 2

In Chicago, Carlos Quentin doubled twice and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on Paul Konerko’s sacrifice to give the White Sox a win over the Rangers.

Twins 9, Mariners 6

In Minneapolis, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau hit back-to-back homers for the second straight night and Minnesota roughed up Seattle ace Felix Hernandez in a victory over the Mariners.

Tigers 4, Indians 0

In Cleveland, Edwin Jackson and two Tigers relievers extended Cleveland’s scoreless streak to 19 innings with a win over the Indians.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Braves 6, Phillies 2

In Philadelphia, Javier Vazquez pitched neatly into the eighth inning, Yunel Escobar and Brian McCann hit two-run homers and the Braves beat the Phillies.

Vazquez (3-3) allowed two runs and four hits, striking out seven in 7 2/3 innings. He also helped himself with a double that started a three-run rally in the fifth.

Dodgers 8, Giants 0

In Los Angeles, Eric Stults pitched a four-hitter for his second career shutout and the Dodgers earned their first win since Manny Ramirez was suspended, beating the Giants.

Reds 8, Cardinals 3

In Cincinnati, Aaron Harang pitched seven innings and had a bases-loaded single during Cincinnati’s decisive rally, a birthday bash that gave the Reds a victory over the Cardinals and their best record in three years.

Astros 5, Padres 4

In Houston, Miguel Tejada’s infielder bouncer drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, and the Astros rallied to beat the Padres.

Brewers 12, Cubs 6

In Milwaukee, Craig Counsell and Ryan Braun hit back-to-back homers and Milwaukee scored six times in the seventh inning before the lights went out, delaying the game for 20 minutes.

Marlins 3, Rockies 1

In Denver, Josh Johnson pitched eight innings of seven-hit ball to lead Florida past Colorado and Jorge De La Rosa.

Nationals 2, D’backs 1

In Phoenix, Ryan Zimmerman extended his hitting streak to 27 games with a home run in the eighth inning and Washington won its third straight.
