Obama’s Rx too fuzzy: poll

WASHINGTON — President Obama better hope there’s a cure for confusion.

As he prepares to try to revive his health plan this month, two-thirds of voters say they don’t understand the proposed reforms moving through Congress.

Just 31 percent said they have a clear understanding of the reforms, according to a new poll by CBS News.

And even after weeks of public appearances by Obama, aided by a team of message gurus, 60 percent of Americans say he hasn’t clearly explained his plans.

A majority of Republicans and independents — and 38 percent of Democrats — said Obama hasn’t clearly explained his plans.

Part of Obama’s problem is that he has tried to make a big-picture argument for reform while critics have been hammering him with legislative details drawn from a web of competing bills in Congress.

“They’re in the middle of this firestorm of facts, none of which are really helping them, and which they’re trying to ignore,” said Michael Franc of the conservative Heritage Foundation.

The indications of widespread confusion among the public come as Obama’s overall approval rating has tanked, reaching 45 percent in the latest Rasmussen poll. With Post Wire Services
