Gates funds school study

The city’s public school teachers have been chosen to participate in a selective, $2.6 million study that aims to find the most reliable methods for evaluating teachers.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation study comes at a time when the criteria for evaluating teachers have been increasingly debated.

“There’s been so much debate about what constitutes effective teaching and learning,” said United Federation of Teachers chief Michael Mulgrew. “We’re looking at this as an opportunity to get to the bottom of this.”
