Gov. Paterson’s support from women is slipping

ALBANY — Revelations that Gov. Paterson might have personally sought to squash a domestic-violence case against a top aide spurred a precipitous drop in his support — especially among women — a poll released yesterday found.

The Quinnipiac poll found the share of female voters who support Paterson’s resignation jumped from 24 percent to 40 percent over the two days of the statewide survey.

The combined results from the two days of polling found women favored keeping the governor in office, 56 percent to 32 percent.

Overall, voters opposed Paterson’s resignation, 61-31. Black voters want the governor to stay, 70-24.
