Cone leaving YES Network

What The Post reported on Dec. 18 — David Cone apparently leaving the YES Network, where he was an analyst on Yankees telecasts, the last two seasons — yesterday became finalized, according to both YES and Cone.

In thanking YES, Cone said he “wants to spend more time with my family.” Cone’s YES deal had expired, and efforts to re-sign him failed. Long an baseball union activist, he has been rumored to have been recruited for an executive position with the players association.

Tino Martinez has been a rumored replacement for Cone. Even without Cone, the YES booth is stocked with recent former Yankees: John Flaherty, Paul O’Neill and Al Leiter.
