Madoff piano, slippers hit the auction block

You wouldn’t want to be in Bernie Madoff’s shoes — but now you can wear his boxers.

Eleven brand new designer men’s boxer shorts that belonged to the infamous fraudster are among the 489 lots of his and his wife Ruth’s belongings that will go under the hammer Saturday.

Lot 380, which includes the boxers, along with a pair of Prada pantyhose that presumably belonged to his wife Ruth and black silk Armani pants and dozens of pairs of socks, is expected to fetch $960 to $1370.

Madoff is in prison facing the music, and his Steinway grand piano is also up for auction..

“We’ve had a lot of calls about the Steinway piano,” Bob Sheehan, owner of Gaston &Sheehan auctioneers said today at a press preview of the items at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. “If you’ve got a Steinway, you’re on top of the world. It’s like having a Cadillac.”

Lot 72 — the Steinway and bench, circa 1917 – is estimated to fetch $7,000 to $16,000 at the auction Saturday at the New York Sheraton Hotel and Towers at 7th Avenue at 53rd street.

Potential bidders can get a preview of the items — ranging from dozens of pairs of Bernie and Ruth’s shoes to, books, furniture, assorted games, luggage, and clothing —Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, building 25.

The items are the last seized from the couple’s Manhattan penthouse and Montauk beachhouse. This is the second such auction, with proceeds going to victims of Madoff’s $65 billion scam.

“Everything that was put up for auction last year sold,” said Roland Ubaldo, supervisory deputy U.S. Marshall. “It raised approximately $1 million and we hope to have the same success we had this year.”

Lot 374 includes a pair of Bernie’s black monogrammed slippers, with the initials BLM embroidered in gold thread , along with a woman’s shirt with the monogram RAM, that is is expected to fetch $75 to $110.

The most expensive bauble is a 10.54 carat, emerald-cut diamond engagement ring that once belonged to Ruth and is expected to fetch $300,000 to $350,000.

Bernie Madoff is serving 150 years in a federal lockup.
