Comcast to unveil NBCU reorganization

Comcast’s Chief Operating Officer Steve Burke plans to announce a major reorganization of NBC Universal as early as next week, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The new, “flatter” structure would give Burke — who is slated to be NBC Universal’s new CEO — more direct oversight of the company’s biggest assets: cable and broadcast television networks, The Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.

Comcast announced its deal to acquire 51 percent control of NBC Universal from General Electric last December. The roughly $13.75 billion deal, which is pending regulatory review, is expected to close by the end of the year or in early 2011.
