Belt Pkwy. pedaler

Motorists stuck in a massive traffic jam yesterday on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the cause — an 89-year-old man riding a tricycle.

James Lynch, an Alzheimer’s sufferer who had ridden more than four miles on the parkway, was rescued by cops without injury.

Police received numerous 911 calls from drivers who spotted the elderly man.

His ride began at his home on Beach 118th Street in Rockaway Park, which he left at around 8 a.m. to attend Mass.

He had pedaled a total of 10 miles by the time cops pulled him over at the Rockaway Parkway exit.

He had ridden over the Marine Parkway Bridge and along Flatbush Avenue to get onto the highway.

Cops began tailing him a half-mile from the Rockaway Parkway exit, but had to wait to pull him over because of construction.

Lynch gave cops his name, and a background search revealed that he had been a patient at Peninsula Hospital in Rockaway, where he was reunited with his family after more than two hours.
