NBC picks up Chelsea Handler primetime TV show: report

Late-night TV host Chelsea Handler will work with NBC to develop a primetime comedy project based on her book “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea,” Deadline reported Wednesday.

The show is described as an autobiographical comedy loosely based on the life of the “Chelsea Lately” host. The plot will follow the main character as she deals with the complications of dealing with life, family, friends and romantic/sexual relationships — as were portrayed in Handler’s writings.

Handler will not be starring in the TV show but will serve as an executive producer.

In October, Handler announced she will star in and produce “After Lately” — a semi-scripted comedy show on E! — which will follow the backstage goings at her late-night talk show.

Since July 2007, Handler has hosted “Chelsea Lately,” her own half-hour late-night comedy series on E! Cable Television Network.
