Jets report card

OFFENSE

Mark Sanchez (17-44, 216 yards, 1 INT, 45.3 rating) was abysmal, turning the ball over twice in the first quarter. WR Santonio Holmes dropped a TD pass in the second quarter, though he made a nice diving catch later. TE Ben Hartsock had a face-mask penalty in the first quarter and a holding penalty in the third quarter. Running game (2.8-yards per carry) was poor. LaDainian Tomlinson had 49 yards on 19 carries and Shonn Greene was worse (8 for 17). F

DEFENSE

Held the Dolphins to 131 yards of total offense (42 in the second half) and six first downs (one in the second half). LB Calvin Pace had a sack/forced fumble on Chad Henne. S Brodney Pool had a strong game with a sack, forced fumble and a recovery. On the Brandon Marshall TD, there was clear lack of communication, with LB Bart Scott and S Eric Smith looking lost. A-

Brad Smith had a 45-yard kickoff return to start the game and averaged 31.3 yards. C

COACHING

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer seems to be in a funk, failing to get the offense in any sort of rhythm. His wildcat call on fourth-and-2 in the second quarter was unimaginative. Defensively, the Jets had a better plan, holding the Dolphins’ passing game down. Rex Ryan’s players are not confident and his team is in mini-crisis. D
