Digital Rothenberg

Time Inc. has tapped its first-ever chief digital officer.

Randall Rothenberg, who was most recently president and chief executive of the Interactive Advertising Bureau, will join Time Inc. in mid-January as an executive vice president and chief digital officer.

It’s the latest appointment by new CEO Jack Griffin, who is rapidly putting his stamp on the company’s hierarchy.

Rothenberg’s recruitment marks one of the first times Griffin has stepped outside the Time Inc. talent pool for a high-level appointment.

In recent weeks, he’s elevated Martha Nelson to the editorial director job, the No. 2 editorial slot in the company behind Editor-In-Chief John Huey.

Last week, Griffin named Stephanie George chief marketing officer and elevated Paul Caine to chief revenue officer. Both have executive vice-president stripes.

Rothenberg said he will be scouting for potential acquisitions as well as trying to sort out good digital ideas within the company.
