Shorty Awards celebrate social media stars

All of the Internet’s most popular self-promoters were out in full force Monday night in New York City for the Shorty Awards.

Now in their sixth year, the Shorty Awards are a who’s who of social media. From teenage Vine stars to Hollywood actors with popular Twitter feeds, the awards celebrate people who’ve helped shape a national conversation online.

Will Ferrell picked up a lifetime achievement award. “Parks and Recreation” actress Retta was awarded a Shorty for her popular Twitter feed @unfoRETTAble, and Jerry Seinfeld was honored for his popular web series.

Host Natasha Leggero mocked the crowd relentlessly. She told the Post before the show, “I’m just glad to be at an event where video bloggers can finally get some p—y.”

Gilbert Gottfried, a presenter, joked that he’d never even heard of the Shorty Awards before. “I can barely figure out how to operate a microwave,” he said.
