Jennifer Lopez joins cast of ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’

LOS ANGELES — Jennifer Lopez has been cast in “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” the movie adaptation of the bestselling pregnancy guide, Access Hollywood reported Tuesday.

Lopez will play a woman who adopts a baby from a foreign country after she and her husband have difficulty conceiving a child of their own. She joins co-star Cameron Diaz, whose participation in the film had already been announced.

Currently a judge on “American Idol,” Lopez was last seen on the big screen in 2010’s “The Back-Up Plan.”

Shauna Cross, who wrote Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut “Whip It,” adapted the nonfiction “What to Expect” into a fictional film in the vein of “Love Actually,” with multiple storylines that will follow five expecting couples.

“What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” currently in its fourth edition, was first published in 1984 and has sold more than 20 million copies. In 2007, USA Today put it at No. 19 on its list of the 25 most influential books of the past 25 years.

“What to Expect When You’re Expecting” is scheduled to open in theaters on Mother’s Day weekend 2012.
