Mets star Wright gets engaged

Scratch David Wright’s name off the list of most eligible bachelors in New York.

Wright is engaged to beautiful model Molly Beers, industry sources confirmed yesterday. No date for the wedding has yet been announced.

The happy couple was seen together at Wright’s fundraiser in Virginia on Friday as he hosted Vegas Night to benefit Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Despite the Mets’ losing ways, in so many ways Wright has hit the jackpot this off-season.

The bride-to-be also accompanied Wright, 30, to the winter meetings in Nashville last month when the Mets officially announced the eight-year, $138 million contract extension for the third baseman. Wright and Beers have been dating for years and their relationship first became public when Wright threw her a birthday party over the All-Star break in 2008. The engagement was first reported by ESPNNewYork.com.

Wright seemingly has it all now. He is essentially a Met for life, playing where he has always wanted to play, and will soon put a wedding ring on his finger and be married to the girl of his dreams.

The quest for a championship ring is quite another matter, and in so many ways, Wright’s professional fate remains tied to the actions of the Mets’ front office.
