‘Teddy Goalsevelt’ is the face of US soccer fans

The biggest star from the United States’ 2-2 draw against Portugal has been dead for 95 years.

Dressed like Teddy Roosevelt, US fan Mike D’Amico stole the attention of the nation after what appeared to be a game-winning goal from Clint Dempsey in the 81st minute on Sunday night.

But the Rough Rider impersonator does not heed his inspiration’s advice — speaking softly isn’t what “Teddy Goalsevelt” is about.

“I do it because it gets people fired up here,” D’Amico told Yahoo! Sports. “I led the march here and people were like ‘Yeah, Teddy Roosevelt!’ It gets people involved.

“When I’m trying to start a song in the stands, it’s easier to listen to Teddy Roosevelt than some other guy in another shirt.”
