A regrettable anniversary

The Issue: The 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which gave women a federal right to choose abortion.

Was Roe v. Wade the beginning of the decline of America (“Roe at 40,” Editorial, Jan. 22)?

Yes. The slippery slope of decline can be traced to Jan. 22, 1973.

When the government of the people sanctions murder of the unborn, what is difficult after that?W. Sheridan

It is not just a tenet of any faith that every child is human from conception, with all chromosomes and genes present. It’s a self-evident biological fact. It is not a religious doctrine that states that all men are created equal, with an unalienable right to life. It’s in the Declaration of Independence, upon which this country was founded.

Opposition to abortion is not exclusively based on the dogma of any particular religious faith, but is founded equally on non-theological grounds, which unequivocally propound the human status and the dignity of the child in utero.

The greatest insult to Americans on this issue is the Supreme Court basing its decision on “privacy,” a term which is used as a rationale by the court and its supporters against unborn babies, whose only crime was to be unwanted.
