Damon Wayans Jr.’s funniest ‘New Girl’ moments

Coach is officially a member of the “New Girl” team.

Damon Wayans Jr. was cast in the Fox show’s pilot in 2011 and then left for a role on ABC sitcom “Happy Endings.” After the ABC show was canceled last year, Wayans came back to “New Girl” as a guest star for Season 3. And Fox has just announced that he’ll be a series regular when the series returns for a fourth season in the fall.

When Wayans left, his spot in the loft was filled by Winston (Lamorne Morris). But this season has proven there’s plenty of room for Jess (Zooey Deschanel), Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Winston and Coach in the building — even if it means Schmidt living across the hall in his own studio.

The guy has charisma in his veins, and here are his most charming “New Girl” moments:

Coach watching Winston yawn

In Episode 21, Jess describes happiness as watching Coach fondly admiring Winston’s adorable yawn. Although Coach is a guys’ guy who preaches tough love, his softer side sprouts up at the most unexpected moments.

His awkward first date with Cece

Coach asks Jess’ friend Cece (Hannah Simone) out on a date. In his attempts to appear cool and suave, he comes off as cold and jerky. Cece is not impressed, but the audience feels for him because we know he’s just trying to impress her.

His workout/dance moves

Personal trainer Coach tries to get Nick into shape. And his choice of workout track, Britney Spears’ “Work B**ch,” is perfection.

Chaperoning Jess’ school dance

Coach does what he does best — taking charge of a situation — when he volunteers to chaperone a school dance.

The ‘Douchebag Jar’

Let us not forget that Coach was the original enforcer of the “Douchebag Jar.” In the pilot, Coach demanded Schmidt contribute a dollar every time he said something douchey, which is pretty often.
