Ohio St. beats N’western again

Deshaun Thomas scored 22 points and No. 13 Ohio State used a late 12-0 run to beat Northwestern 69-59 last night, the Buckeyes’ 32nd consecutive home win against the Wildcats.

Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 12 points — all in the first half — with Sam Thompson getting 11 and Amir Williams had a career-high 10 for the Buckeyes (18-6, 8-4 Big Ten).

Gonzaga 77, St Mary’s 60

Gary Bell Jr. scored 20 points and helped fuel a fast start to the second half that helped fifth-ranked Gonzaga (24-2, 11-0) take a stranglehold on the West Coast Conference race with a victory at Saint Mary’s (21-5, 10-2).

In Minneapolis, Andre Hollins hit the go-ahead 3-pointer midway through overtime to finish with 21 points and lead the Gophers over the 20th-ranked Badgers. It was third straight game Wisconsin went to overtime.

In Staten Island, Marcus Burton scored 23 points and Wagner overcame 42 points from CCSU’s Kyle Vinales.

In Hackensack, Akeem Johnson scored 21 points with a career-high 17 rebounds and made 13 of 14 free throws for St. Francis of Brooklyn.

LIU Brooklyn 80, Monmouth 66

In West Long Branch, N.J., Jamal Olasewere scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half to help LIU Brooklyn rally for the win.

Rider 72, St. Peter’s 57

In Lawrenceville, N.J., Anthony Myles scored 17 points and Rider took control early in the second half to sweep the season series.
