Kenny to pull double duty for NYU

His work as the radio voice of the Rangers and his myriad duties with Fox and MSG clearly aren’t enough for Kenny Albert. Given a Friday night off during the NHL’s compact 48-game season, he has predictably found himself another game to call.

Tonight, Albert, NYU Class of 1990, will alternate between play by play and color as his alma mater’s men’s and women’s basketball teams face Washington University. Both games will be available on the Internet at http://nyuathletics.tv.

“They contacted me, ironically in this day and age, via Twitter about a month ago asking if I’d be interested in coming back and doing the games,” Albert said. “I said, ‘Sure’. I haven’t been back in a long time.’’

The games will be played at Cole Sports Center, where Albert called many of the Violets’ basketball games for WNYU Radio from 1986-90.

“These are on the web, which is great because back when I was in school you couldn’t get the radio station on campus,” Albert said. “You never knew if anyone ever heard the games, but it was a great experience.’’

Tonight, students will do the play-by-play for the first half of each game with Albert doing the analysis as he gets acclimated to the teams. He’ll then do the play by play of the second halves.

“The amazing thing is I’m looking at the rosters and most of the kids who will be in the games weren’t even born when I graduated,” said Albert, 45. “I’m definitely feeling a little on the old side. Even the seniors who are 22 were probably born right around the time I left.”
