‘Death’ test’s final answers

Anyone dying to know if they’ll be around for the next decade can check out a new death calculator.

San Francisco researchers have devised a “mortality index’’ — a dozen-item checklist for people over 50 to figure their chances of surviving the next 10 years.

The 12 items cover age, gender and medical conditions, and each answer is assigned points.

The fewer points you have, the longer you’ll live.

Doctors use the list to determine if risks outweigh benefits when it comes to things like rigorous diabetes treatment, colon-cancer screening and cervical-cancer tests that may not be safe for older patients.

Those who get the desirable score of zero, which translates to a 3 percent chance of dying within 10 years, are likely to be women below 60 with none of the itemized ailments.
