NYPD cop can beat India charges of bullet possession: lawyer

The lawyer for a Harlem cop busted at an Indian airport for possessing three bullets said Saturday he’s confident his client will beat the rap.

Elected officials say Manny Encarnacion’s legal woes are payback for the “Nannygate’’ arrest of a female Indian diplomat in Manhattan in December. His lawyer, Samarjit G. Pattnaik, tried to downplay the connection.

Indian courts have previously “quashed” charges against people whose ammo possession is “inadvertent,” the lawyer said.

Encarnacion was arrested on March 10 at when officers found three 9mm rounds in a jacket pocket in his checked suitcase. The charges carry a maximum seven-year prison term.

The officer says he mistakenly pocketed the rounds during a routine firearm-certification test at the NYPD firing range.
