Legendary mayor Ed Koch leaves behind $850K in will

Former Mayor Ed Koch, who died last month from congestive heart failure, continued to give to the city he loved yesterday with a $100,000 gift to an educational fund and a treasure trove of political memorabilia to the New York Historical Society.

Koch, 88, who received a grand send-off complete with a standing ovation to the iconic tune “New York, New York,” at his funeral five weeks ago, left the bulk of his estate to his sister, Pat Thaler, was also appointed executor of his will.

Court papers listed his net worth at $10.5 million.

Koch left his sister and her husband $500,000 cash along with all his personal belongings not earmarked for historical archives.

The cheerleading mayor, who always asked New Yorkers, “How’m I doing,” gave away a total of $850,000 in the will, including $100,000 to his loyal secretary Mary Garrigan, who had worked with him since 1976 in his congressional office.

Koch also gave, $50,000 to brother’s widow Gail Koch; $50,000 to nephew Andrew Koch and $50,000 to niece Joey Koch.

The former mayor also gave $100,000 to the LaGuardia and Wagner Educational fund for “creating a program and bearing my name to promote public and government service.”

Koch signed the 9-page document on Nov. 15, 2007.
