Cuomo fights for UFC plan

ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo has his eye on ultimate-fighting purses.

New York should consider legalizing the controversial sport if proponents can show it would make big money for the state, Cuomo said yesterday.

“I think it’s something that should be pursued, definitely,” he said. “It’s about jobs.”

Ultimate Fighting Championship says holding one such event at Madison Square Garden and in Buffalo would generate more than $28 million in economic activity.

UFC would hold at least four events a year for the next three years, chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said yesterday.
