Kentucky, Maryland keeping Barclays in their future

Any college hoops junkie in the metropolitan area has got to feel like he or she hit Lotto this week.

One train ride could get you from the Big East Tournament in Manhattan to the Atlantic 10 Tournament in Brooklyn.

Next season the payoff is going to be even more lucrative.

Sources tell The Post Barclays Center has secured long-term, exclusive commitments from Kentucky and Maryland to play annual games at the new arena in Brooklyn.

The sources said both schools have agreed to separate two-year rollover deals that will keep them coming back to Barclays for years to come.

The Wildcats will play Providence on Dec. 1. Maryland’s date and opponent are yet to be determined, but the source said it will be a national profile team from a power conference.

Kentucky and Maryland christened the college basketball schedule at Barclays on Nov. 9 with a thrilling game in which the Wildcats edged the Terps 72-69 before a sellout crowd of 17,732.

The sources said Barclays also is in negotiations to bring several other programs currently ranked in the Top 10 to Brooklyn next season.

St. John’s, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Penn State already have committed to play in the Barclays Center Classic on Nov. 29-30. The inaugural Brooklyn Hoops Women’s Invitational, featuring Rutgers, Texas Tech, Michigan and LSU will be held the same days.

Barclays is in negotiations with Fox Sports 1 and NBC about securing national TV deals for all of its elite games that are not currently contracted with another network.

The Atlantic 10 Tournament is making its debut at Barclays this year and sources said Mark Lewis, the new NCAA vice president for championships, met with Brett Yormark, CEO of the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center.

Yormark and Lewis, sources said, were exploring the possibility of bringing college championship tournaments to Barclays. The brass ring, of course, would be an NCAA regional final.

But sources said Lewis is also considering Barclays as a possible site for the NCAA’s women’s basketball tournament, and its wrestling and hockey championships.
