Diver attempts record-breaking swim for Nat Geo special

Following TV specials for Nik Wallenda’s tightrope walk across the Grand Canyon and Joby Ogwyn jumping off Mt. Everest in a wingsuit, National Geographic Channel is taking TV’s next death-defying stunt to the sea.

The network has set a live special following world record holding free diver William Trubridge as he attempts to swim to a depth deeper than the height of the Statue of Liberty — all in a single breath.

In “Free Dive Live with William Trubridge,” the 33-year-old will dive into Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas using only his hands and feet to descend 350 feet, deeper than any person has swam before.

The special — which does not yet have an air date — will also follow Trubridge as he prepares for the dive and explore the science of how his body is able to withstand the record-breaking attempt.
