TSA finds AK-47 in man’s luggage at Newark Airport

A 23-year-old Indiana man tried to check an AK-47 rifle and 70 rounds of ammo onto a flight from Newark Airport to Chicago, authorities said.

Adam Urbano, of Valparaiso, was arrested by Port Authority cops Wednesday at about 6:40 p.m. when TSA agents found the weapon during a screening of his luggage, prior to his boarding a Southwest Airlines flight. There also were three magazines containing 70 rounds.

Urbano had no paperwork for the rifle and had not declared it to airline officials.

A police source said Urbano told cops he flew to Newark on April 17 from Chicago aboard a Southwest flight with the rifle in his luggage.
